Dominga Garcia and I worked on our first collaborative piece. Which spawned our collective brand Chicaflicka. This piece is constructed out of a reclaimed rubber inner tube from a truck tire. Re-imagined into a two-piece circle wrap skirt and corset top. It’s giving Mad Max / Burning Man vibes. This was a fun project. We treated this collaboration like an episode from project runway. Where we had a limited time frame of six hours and we could only use what was in the workshop. We visited a friends sewing workshop where they make parachutes. They ave 15 industrial machines. All setup for different steps in the parachute making process. It was my first time using an industrial machine as well. So it was fun to use a few of the machines. In the beginning of the tour is where we were shown around the shop and went through all the scrap material. It was then that I selected the inner tube of a truck tire as my substrate that day.
